Rosie's Top 5 Comedies!

Seeing as Ollie is away for 5 days (cry) I've decided to do a post of my 5 favourite comedy films. We dont watch many comedies as part of Rollie so I thought it might be a nice different thing to see on the blog (and it gladly takes up 10 minutes of my time during my boring day). So without further ado, and in no particular order..

1. Shaun of The Dead 

The film i have probably watched the most out of every film I've ever seen. I love this film and (as you may be able to tell from number 2) I love the Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg/Nick Frost films, although the last in the trilogy left me a little dissapointed. I also love zombies, so this is just perfect for me and if you havent seen it you should be hung.

2. Hot Fuzz

Ahh, Hot Fuzz, how I love you. Incredibly funny and the friendship between Simon and Nick is purely heartwarming. Give this a watch if you haven't already.

3. The Hangover

The first of the 3 Hangover films, and by far the best. I believe they should have never made a sequel. Story is funny, actors are funny, whole film is funny.

4. Inbetweeners movie

Now I don't like the movie as much as the Inbetweeners series- the movie is very predictable, however it is still hilarious, although its only funny the first time you watch it, not like Shaun of the Dead which i can, and have, watched over and over again. Anything with Will, Jay, Neil and Simon in is hilarious.

5. Mean Girls

Classic film and one of my favourites. Im pretty sure everyone on earth has seen this, unless you're a middle aged guy, but it is brilliant and shaped the careers of Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried, whatever happened to Gretchen? A must see.

Coming soon?!

So now our 3rd Rollie Awards is over I thought I'd do a little post about what films are on the horizon for Rollie Films.

Gravity
I am VERY excited to see this when it comes to cinemas later this year. Space, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Yes yes yes! Myself and Ollie were in the cinema when we first saw the teaser trailer and we both said that we HAVE to see it when it comes out. I'm really hoping for a good performance from Sandra.

Harry Potter
We're not just going to watch one or two films, we are planning to watch all 8, back to back, in a Harry Potter marathon! Because we really have nothing better to do with our summer holiday.

Sherlock Holmes
I am really hoping to get Ollie into the newish Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law because i think they are a masterpiece of film making.

Lord of the Rings
Another series I want to show Ollie. I first watched lotr probably 5 years ago and have loved it ever since. I used to run round with a tea towel on my back and a ring round my neck pretending I was Frodo..

Halloween 8
Halloween, our most loved series of films is coming to a close with number 8 (although we are still planning to watch number 3 which we missed out as the story was completely different and the Halloween remakes). Even though it's going to be awful, i think rated lower than a 4 on IMDb, we both will still love it. LONG LIVE MICHEAL MYRES.

Of course there will be lots more watched, but those are the films which we've planned and I am most excited for.

A review and a refurbish

Hello! As you can tell our blog has had a facelift and has a new look! We hope you like it (it took me like 4 hours please do omg), we felt it needed a makeover as it was our still original design from when we first launched our blog!

Anyway, enough of that, Rosie and I just watched German drama-thriller 'The Lives of Others' and I'm going to review it.

'The Lives of Others' is ranked at #64 in the IMDb Top 250 so I was naturally expecting great things. I can tell you now, I was left disappointed. I enjoyed it overall but it was just a very good thriller, nothing outstanding yet not bad either. As it began we realised it was a foreign film, having not realised prior to viewing. Now I am no world cinema snob but this film was dragged down by the language barrier - there is a lot of dialogue and I probably would've liked it better if it had been in English. But there are a lot of good things about this film - a great cast, especially the main secret agent who spies on the writer, it's very touching but also very intense throughout. However at certain points it seemed to drag on a bit and I did lose interest slightly especially in the first half of the film, it's hard to explain but I'd say the film takes a while to settle. However I liked the fact the film explored a part of very recent history that film hasn't explored much and it also presented some terrifying thoughts about how governments can control and as the film said at the beginning 'know everything' about you, and how citizens can rebel. Overall an enjoyable thriller but not as good as the critics say.

The Help - Review

Today myself and Ollie (and my darling father) watched The Help, which is a little different to our usual films - you know those thriller action horror types. I have to say we both very much enjoyed it from the start; it uses a clever mix of funny one liners along with the harsh reality of the story which was very refreshing (I'm not actually sure what 'refreshing' means when talking about film but it sounded right in my head). I feel it was a little too long, the beginning of the film seemed to drag, and that's why it wont get a perfect 10 from me but once it got into the heart of the story it was brilliant. I thought the performances of the 2 black maids were very good, as was Emma Stone and most of the cast. My dad cried most of the way through, i suppose that says something.

150th film night/3rd Rollie Awards

THE 3RD ANNUAL ROLLIE AWARDS!!!!!

Yes, I accept your applause. A fun night was had by both of us as we celebrated the last 50 films we have put under our belts, our 3rd era of film. After watching Halloween VII on Monday night, Tuesday morning we both went on a supermarket sweep and bought ingredients for a 3 course meal that was very hard to prepare (..). We both slaved over the stove for hours to create the perfect meal and of course showed up in our best frocks and we even decorated the front room with bottles of San Miguel with flowers in them, cute. The menu was as follows:

Dessert - Donnie Dessert

As we sat on our rug inside (it was raining), it was our first awards meal picnic style, and we both agreed it was the best meal we had eaten at an awards ceremony. We listened to Haim and sipped fine wine (sip sap full fat coke) before we both agreed that our change of premises since film 136 hadn't affected our film nights, and that our new premises were beginning to have its qualities.

Onto the awards! We both fought long and hard over the winners and nominees (especially Hottest Guy and Film that should've won something that didn't) - so, to see the full list of nominees and winners, click here!

How exciting! After the awards we both gave emotional speeches - main points were that we were to be more selective with the next era of films as these had probably been our least favourite of the three eras so far and that we're having as much fun as ever. We then watched 'The Matrix', which was a last minute film as 'The Green Mile' was initally selected as our 150th film. We both enjoyed it however said we could've seen a better film as our 150th and thought previous milestone films: 'Psycho', 'Rosemary's Baby', 'The Shawshank Redemption', and 'Se7en' were better. As our 151st film we watched 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', a film we have been putting off watching for at least 75 films - we both loved it. It was funny and very sad too. As we cleared up the crips and washed up the dishes we both felt very sad - mainly because of the impact the film had on us, but also because our results day is looming and the night was over.
